Where did Orlando shooter Omar Mateen learn to hate gay people? His father yesterday said that it had nothing to do with his religion -- but today he uploaded a video to Facebook that demonstrated his own religious intolerance of homosexuals.

As CBS News reports, Seddique Mir Mateen said on Monday that his son was wrong to massacre 50 people at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando because "God will punish those involved in homosexuality" and it is "not an issue that humans should deal with."

On Sunday, the elder Mateen apologized on behalf of his family for what his son had done while maintaining that he was shocked that Omar Mateen would commit such an atrocity.

“We are saying we are apologizing for the whole incident. We weren’t aware of any action he is taking," Mir Seddique said. "We are in shock like the whole country."

In some ways, Mir Seddique Mateen's views on homosexuality mirror those of Islamic scholar Farrokh Sekaleshfar, who condemned Omar Mateen's murderous rampage on the grounds that the government should be killing gay people instead of vigilantes.

Sekaleshfar gave a talk at the Husseini Islamic Center just outside Orlando just weeks ago where he said that the sentence for people who are found guilty of homosexuality should be death.
