Earlier this week, we learned that a Trump fan had stolen a young black woman’s photo to use for a sock puppet Twitter account called “BlackGirl4Trump,” which has since been deleted.
It looks, however, that stealing other people’s photos to use on pro-Trump social media accounts is not just an isolated incident.
The Army Times reports that a former female soldier had her Facebook photo swiped and used to create a pro-Trump Facebook account used for the explicit purpose of spreading racist messages.
The Trump supporter used the woman’s photo to make a Facebook page for a fictional woman named “Terra Simmons,” who is described on the page as an “Army Reserve medic.”
The fake profile first drew the attention of military officials after “Simmons” posted a message that read, “When Trump gets elected, you fat fuckin n***er she-boons are gonna get your ‘food stamps’ cut and get your fat asses shipped back to Africa.”
“Somebody took a photo of a soldier no longer in the military and appropriated it for a fake post,” Army Reserve spokesman Capt. Eric Connor Connor told The Army Times. “If it had been someone in the Army Reserve … we would have definitely taken a serious look at the matter. Given that it was a bogus post, we didn’t have to go that far.”
So if you see social media posts from someone in a military uniform lobbing racist insults, remember there’s a very good chance that it’s actually a pimply 14-year-old 4Chan user and not a member of the United States Armed Forces.
