The Planned Parenthood Action Fund's president Cecile Richards addressed the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday and gave a ringing endorsement to Hillary Clinton.
"As First Lady, Hillary declared to the world that women's rights are human rights," Richards said of the Democratic nominee.
Of Republican candidate Donald Trump, Richards said, "Women are going to be the reason you're not elected to be president."
Richards discussed the current state of women's reproductive rights in the U.S. and threats posed to the freedom to choose by the Republican Party.
Mother Jones said that Planned Parenthood currently is affiliated with 700 health centers around the country and the organization has an annual budget of $1.3 billion.
In Time magazine on Tuesday, Richards wrote, "The last few years have been brutal for those of us who believe that women should be able to make their own health care decisions. States have passed hundreds of laws to make it harder to access safe and legal abortion, and Congress has tried repeatedly to block people from coming to Planned Parenthood for care."
Richards praised Democratic nominee's decision to choose Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine (D) as her running mate, saying, "As elected officials learn that women across the nation can't get the sexual and reproductive health care they need because of legislative barriers, we have seen them evolve. Senator Kaine is one of those leaders."
