Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump has asked Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R) to be his running mate in the 2016 general election, ABC News reported, citing "a source with direct knowledge."

Pence's purported selection comes a day after speculation swirled around former House Speaker Newt Gingrich as the real estate mogul's choice. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) was also mentioned as a possible vice-presidential nominee following Trump's victory in the Republican party primaries.
