San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who has become a controversial figure for refusing to stand for the National Anthem as a protest against police treatment of black people, will likely be cut by his team.
Per Pro Football Talk, respected NFL reporter Jay Glazer says that it's unlikely that Kaepernick will make the final roster cut, despite the fact that he's started at quarterback for the team for the past three years.
The Niners' decision to part ways with Kaepernick won't be political, however -- his performance has noticeably gotten worse over the past year and Glazer says that he has "lost significant muscle mass when he couldn’t work out following multiple surgeries."
The 49ers are also dealing with a new head coach in Chip Kelly who might want to have a fresh start at the position.
Don't feel too sorry for Kaepernick, however -- he's guaranteed to make $11.9 million this year, regardless of whether he makes the team.
