In attempts to detain a man suspected for aggravated battery, the St. Cloud police ordered the man to the ground and then proceeded to accidentally hit him with the police car.

The Orlando Sentinel reports police were called to the area around 12:15 a.m. but that the suspect, 37-year-old Ray W. Prescott, fled the scene. The officer later saw the suspect not far from the initial location, stopped him and ordered him to the ground.

Backup officer, Glenn Whitter arrived at the scene in his police vehicle and the front right tire hit the suspect while he was lying on the ground. Police clarify that the tire hit him "at a low speed."

Unlike in other cases, "first aid was immediately rendered by the police officers on scene." Prescott was then "transported to an area hospital," a police department spokeswoman said in a statement.

They also admit "poor visibility" could have played into the accident.

A "complete and thorough internal investigation has been initiated," the statement continued.
