NC cop impregnated 14-year-old girl -- then pressured her to have an abortion
James Blair (Gaston County Jail, North Carolina)

A police officer in Lowell, North Carolina was arrested after a local teen girl's mother discovered that he had not only taken advantage of her, but also impregnated the 14-year-old girl.

WSOC-TV reported that James Blair was taken into custody while state investigators were talking to his victim. He was charged with statuory rape.

The suspect had been on medical leave prior to his arrest due to a back injury. His bond was set at $1 million

"My daughter was hurt. I was hurt. Our family was hurt," the girl's mother said following the arrest.

Blair allegedly gained the mother's confidence and offered to "mentor" the girl and her sibling, and even took the two children on at least one road trip.

At some point after that, the mother found text messages on the girl's phone indicating that she was pregnant with his child, and that Blair wanted her to have an abortion.

"If you keep that baby I'm done and you know it," one message read. Another stated, "Do whatever you wanna do, just remember I love you and name it after me."

The mother, who said she does not believe in abortion, said Blair admitted to her that he exploited the girl, while also telling her, "Get rid of the baby or I've lost my life." It is unclear whether the daughter carried the pregnancy to term.

Gaston County District Attorney Locke Bell told WSOC that Blair's arrest should not reflect badly on local police as a whole.

"It does not taint to have one bad apple any more than it would if you had a bad teacher or a bad banker," he said.
