Shortly after news broke that President Donald Trump is reportedly considering firing special prosecutor Robert Mueller, MSNBC host Chris Matthews welcomed Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) onto his show to discuss the liberal senator's reaction to the possibility.
"He's fired one, Comey, who was leading the investigation," Franken said, referencing former FBI Director James Comey, who Trump fired in the midst of the Russia collusion investigation.
"Robert Mueller is widely-respected. I can't imagine what he would do to legitimately open himself to being fired, frankly," Franken said with a laugh.
"Doing his job, maybe," Matthews retorted.
"Trump and the people around him are not acting like people who have nothing to hide," Franken concluded.
