Leaked documents show Tillerson’s new plans for Russia — but Trump might not follow them
According to a BuzzFeed News report, new classified documents show Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s plans for U.S.-Russia relations — but it remains unclear if President Donald Trump will actually follow it.
The three-pillar plan involves a commitment pushback against Kremlin aggression, a renewed interest in issues important to both parties (such as the Syrian Civil War and North Korea’s nukes) and the vaguely-defined concept of “strategic stability” with Moscow, “an ambiguous umbrella term that encompasses a range of long term mutual geopolitical goals.”
While providing background on the newly-released Russia plan, BuzzFeed noted that it has “become the source of anxious speculation by US allies still puzzled about Trump’s commitment to deterring Russia and bolstering NATO allies.”
