Scalise suffered organ damage from gunshot wound to the hip, requires additional surgeries: medical report

Following a personal visit from President Donald Trump, MedStar Washington Hospital Center released further details on the condition Majority Whip Steve Scalise, who was critically wounded in an assassination attempt while practicing with congressional Republicans' softball team.

The hospital reported Congressman Scalise suffered a single rifle shot to his left hip.

"The bullet travelled across his pelvis, fracturing bones, injuring internal organs and causing severe bleeding," the medical staff explained. "He underwent immediate surgery, and an additional procedure to stop bleeding," after going into shock while be transported by helicopter to the medical center.

The hospital also reported Scalise had received multiple units of blood and will be requiring additional operations.

Additional reports claim the rifle used was a Soviet style SKS rifle, which commonly fires full metal jacket bullets at over 2,300 feet per second.
