According to The Hill, a group of school children confronted Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel (D), shouting chants in protest. A video uploaded to Twitter shows the children chanting "16 shots and a cover-up," referencing the Chicago police shooting of teenager Laquan McDonald in 2014 that many believe was covered up.

McDonald was shot 16 times within 45 seconds of his altercation with Chicago officer Jason Van Dyke, who was charged with murder in 2015.

Emanuel came under fire for allegedly covering up Mcdonald's murder after video footage of his shooting was released to the public that contradicted the original police statements. In the dashcam footage, McDonald is seen walking away from officers, rather than advancing on them as Chicago PD initially claimed.
