Three in custody after man opens fire with AK-47 in downtown Fort Wayne

Police in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on Friday responded to an active shooter whom they say fired an "AK-47-type weapon" at apartment buildings in the downtown area.

According to local news station WPTA 21, the suspect was described by police as "a black man wearing black shirt and black pants." Police first responded to a call that came in at 8 a.m. ET about a man firing rounds at apartment buildings, seemingly at random.

Local news station WANE reports that police took three men into custody in response to the shooting after surrounding a home "in the 800 block of East Berry, which is located just northwest of East Central Towers."

The Fort Wayne Police Department announced at 8:55 a.m. ET that it had blockaded the area and advised civilians to avoid traveling through it.
