Colbert scalds ‘Trump-world hanger on’ Scaramucci with brilliant, dead-on impersonation
Stephen Colbert on Monday torched incoming White House Communications Director Andrew Scarmucci and the Trump administration, arguing he’s a joke—but that just means he fits in perfectly.
Noting that a White House aide insisted Scarmucci’s hiring was a “deadly” blow to chief of staff Reince Priebus and White House counselor Steve Bannon, Colbert quipped, “before this, those guys were only dead on the inside.”
The aide also said in addition to being a joke, critics of Scarmucci in the administration think he’s “a Trump-world hanger-on who isn’t qualified for the job.”
“Have you seen the Trump administration?” Colbert asked. “Those are the qualifications for the job.”
“The Late Show” host later turned to Scarmucci’s “great ideas” for “White House Press Secretary—and sorority girl at a rave party whose ecstasy just kicked in—Sarah Huckabee Sanders.”
Colbert played a clip of Scarmucci telling Sanders—via CNN’s Jake Tapper—he’d like to “continue to use the hair and makeup person.”
“He’s going to fit in with the Trump administration just perfectly,” Colbert said before doing his impression of the communications director.
“Hey, you could smile some more,” Colbert-as-Scarmucci said.
