House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) was “readmitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to new concerns for infection,” according to a statement from MedStar Washington.
The news comes hours after fellow Rep. Phil Roe (R-TN) told reporters his wounded colleague “just [got] out of bed”—though Roe added Scalise was “not able to eat yet.”
"He's had a very, very serious injury,” Roe told ABC News.
Scalise was hospitalized on June 14, after a gunman opened fire on Republican lawmakers as they practiced for the Congressional baseball game. According to the hospital, Scalise's condition has now been downgraded from "fair" to "serious."
