A deep dive into the strained relationship between new White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci and former White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus reveals begging, rumor-mongering and smears whispered in President Donald Trump's ear.
According to the Huffington Post, the enmity between Priebus and the man they call the "Mooch" began back in January when the former RNC head was given the chief of staff role that Scaramucci thought might be his.
Scaramucci orchestrated the sale of his stake in his hedge fund, SkyBridge Capital, to Chinese conglomerate HNA Group with an eye on possibly landing a spot in the White House as the head of the public liaison office previously held by Valerie Jarrett. According to associates, Scaramucci hoped to use his business contacts to help boost now-President Trump.
However, Priebus didn't want Scaramucci near the president and advised Trump that Scaramucci's deal with the Chinese -- whom he thought paid too much -- would bring unwanted scrutiny. He also worried that Scaramucci may have made promises to the Chinese in his emails with them.
According to the report, Scaramucci then turned to Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner and presidential strategist Steve Bannon, who, sources say, told the New York hedge funder he was "too busy attempting to save the job of another adviser, Stephen Miller, to spend time or capital trying to help Scaramucci."
Scaramuuci also believed there was a whisper campaign in the White House that his financial status looked shady because he’s of Italian descent.
He eventually got his foot in the door by reportedly appealing to Trump's personal bodyguard Keith Schiller, who connected Scaramucci with the president by phone -- without interference from Priebus -- allowing him to make his case for a job in the administration.
After being appointed by the president to a position at the Export-Import Bank, Scaramucci was able to get Trump's ear and reportedly hinted that Priebus might be the White House leaker who revealed that Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner met with Russians linked to the Kremlin in Trump Tower in 2016.
According to the report, Scaramucci was named the new White House communications director ten days later over the objections of White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer and Priebus -- particularly in light of that fact that Scaramucci would report directly to Trump.
Scaramucci's final act was was the interview he gave to the New Yorker's Ryan Lizza where he called Priebus a " f*cking schizophrenic paranoiac” who "cock-blocked" him with leaks.
Preibus stepped down -- or was pushed out -- on Friday while Anthony Scaramucci seems to not have served any repercussion inside the White House for what Lizza called an "insane interview."
