Ana Navarro criticized for giving ‘big bucks’ to Democrats — but they match Donald Trump’s ‘liberal’ donations
Republican CNN commentator Ana Navarro is being criticized for donating to Democrats over the last several years while purporting to be a Republican.
State Senator Steve Montenegro (R-AZ) blasted Navarro during a heated panel discussion because she was criticizing President Donald Trump. He accused her of being a liberal for supporting Hillary Clinton and calling Trump a racist over the last few years. He claimed that only liberals are coming after both Trump and former Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who received the first presidential pardon of the administration last week.
Navarro shot back that both Republican Arizona senators disagreed with the pardon. House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) also admitted he didn’t agree with the pardon.
However, LifeZette followed up with the accusations claiming Navarro has donated $18,000 to Democrats and seemed to question her Republican chops. Navarro has made her support of some Democrats no secret, disclosing it several times on air, however, LifeZette only briefly mentioned the money the strategist has given to Republicans.
“Many of Navarro’s contributions have gone to Republicans, but rarely conservatives who toe a hard line on illegal immigration,” the story claims. But it left out the number totals nearly $43,000 in federally tracked donations, over twice what she’s given to Democrats. It also doesn’t include the state donations Navarro has given.
This tactic to undermine the independence of the media isn’t new.
In fact, Trump strategist Kellyanne Conway attacked the staffs of special counselor Robert Mueller because some of them have made donations to Democrats.
“Many people are afraid that if this president fires Robert Mueller, we will be in a constitutional crisis,” CNN host Brian Stelter said to Conway in July. “Why doesn’t the president just want Mueller to prove that Trump is right, that Russia was a hoax? Why doesn’t he just want Mueller to go ahead and confirm that for him?”
“Isn’t Mr. Mueller and his band of Democratic donors doing that?” Conway responded.
If that’s the litmus test, Trump is in trouble himself. Federal donations by Jared Kushner total over $151,950 to Democratic PACS with $11,000 that went to Clinton and her PACs. Only $1,000 has gone to Republicans. For Trump’s eldest daughter, $96,700 of Ivanka Trump’s federal donations have gone to Democrats and Democratic PACS with $4,400 going to Clinton. However, in 2012, she did donate over $120,000 to Republicans and Republican PACS.
According to a Washington Post report, both Trump allies Steven Mnuchin and Gary Cohn have given to Republicans, but also donated $371,000 to Democrats between the two, not including more than $14,000 to Clinton.
If Navarro’s Democratic giving comes in at 29.5 percent of her total donations and that is considered an indication of liberalism, just over 27 percent of Trump’s total donations have gone to Democrats in the past. Out of a total of $933,800 Trump has given to federal candidates and PACs, $252,600 went to Democrats over the years with just under $3,000 to Hillary Clinton. Navarro doesn’t have any donations to Clinton.
