Hillary Clinton admits her “skin crawled” when Donald Trump lurked menacingly behind her during their second presidential debate last year, according to excerpts from her new book on the campaign.
MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” aired the first batch Wednesday of excerpts from Clinton’s forthcoming memoir, “What Happened,” which included her reflections on Trump’s attempts to intimidate her during the town hall-style debate.
Clinton admits the tactic made her uncomfortable and angry, and she reflects on her own reaction to Trump standing closely behind her as she spoke.
“Well, what would you do?” Clinton says, in an audio recording of the book. “Do you stay calm, keep smiling and carry on as if he weren’t repeatedly invading your space? Or do you turn, look him in the eye and say loudly and clearly: ‘Back up you creep, get away from me. I know you love to intimidate women, but you can’t intimidate me, so back up.'”
She says the second option, which she ultimately rejected, would have made for great TV — but instead she chose to stay silent and focus on her own job.
