San Antonio Police Dept says cop was justified in punching 14-year-old girl in shocking viral video
The San Antonio police officer at the center of a viral video brutality scandal did in fact punch a 14-year-old girl, but was justified in doing so according the department’s use-of-force report.
A use-of-force report obtained by the San Antonio Express-News concluded an officer did hit the girl with his hand, but was justified.
In the grainy cell phone video of the incident, a woman can be heard shouting, “don’t grab her like that.” Then another woman screams, “oh my God” as a police officer later identified as Gary Tuli appears to deliver a strong right hook to the victim’s face.
Onlookers are heard shouting “no” as multiple officers converge on the 14-year-old girl.
The city of San Antonio attempted to block the release of the use-of-force report and police spokesperson Romana Lopez said the department would have no comments explaining why the officer’s actions were justified.
