A Florida man preparing for the monstrous category 4 Hurricane Irma became an everyday hero Thursday when he offered a woman whose father is on oxygen the last generator.
In an emotional video, Ramon Santiago and Pam Brekke can be seen embracing in the aisle of a wholesale store, both sobbing, as he insists she take the power source for her dad. According to WFTV-TV, she had driven 30 miles to a Lowe’s in Orlando after learning they’d received a shipment of a little over 200 generators.
When she got there, Brekke—who was next in line—was told they’d been sold out. After explaining to Santiago that her father needs the generator for his oxygen supply, the stranger insisted she take the last one.
“That’s a beautiful man right there,” Brekke says in the video, as the man wipes away tears.
“She needs the generator,” Santiago told WFTV-TV of his decision to offer the woman the last power supply. “It’s okay. No worry for them.”
“I’m very overwhelmed by that man,” Brekke told the network. “That gentleman was a great gentleman right there. God will bless that man.”
Hurricane Irma ravaged the Caribbean this week, killing at least 20 people. It is expected to make landfall over the Florida Keys on Saturday. As the News Journal reports, residents are searching for plywood, generators, sandbags and water “with mixed success.”
