Olbermann unloads on Trump for issuing ‘meaningless’ travel ban while Puerto Rico ‘bakes in oppressive heat’
In a more perfect union, host Keith Olbermann mused on Tuesday’s installment of “The Resistance,” there would be a presidential proclamation that appropriately aids Puerto Rico in their recovery from Hurricane Maria.
“Making America safe is my number one priority,” began the hypothetical proclamation. “And so I am declaring the United States territory of Puerto Rico…a federal disaster area of the highest magnitude after the nearly total impact there of Hurricane Maria.”
That ideal-world announcement of proper federal for relief the territory would include an immediate aid package sent to Congress and the suspension of security checks at Puerto Rican airports, to be replaced by searches when Americans fleeing the devastation arrive in the mainland.
“That is what a president would say,” Olbermann continued.
Instead, Americans on the island and in the mainland were treated to “another meaningless travel ban” couched between President Donald Trump’s anthem tantrum tweets.
Trump continued to tweet about the NFL, Olbermann said, while more than three million Americans on the island “bake in oppressive heat without power, often without water, as the stores run out.”
“If you think Donald Trump sees any difference between Mexican Hispanics and Puerto Rican Hispanics,” he concluded, “you are living in a fool’s paradise.”
