‘Trump about to declare himself a church’: Internet schools president for wanting to give Joel Osteen FEMA cash
Churches are supposed to be nonpartisan and nonprofit organizations that do “moral” things to help people in their communities. For that reason, they’ve always fallen under a tax-exempt status and aren’t required to pay taxes. President Donald Trump didn’t seem to know this while tweeting about religious institutions helping out with those communities impacted by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.
“Churches in Texas should be entitled to reimbursement from FEMA Relief Funds for helping victims of Hurricane Harvey (just like others),” Trump tweeted Friday evening as Irma was making landfall in Cuba.
