A trooper for the Texas Department of Public Safety was shot and killed Thursday south of Dallas, according to local media. The shooting happened at about 4 p.m.
A manhunt involving several law enforcement agencies is now underway.
Dabrett Montreal Black has been named as the suspected gunman. His vehicle has been described as a gray 2012 Chevy Malibu with Texas license plate number JDN-4273.
“Contact law enforcement if spotted and do not approach,” police said.
The Oklahoma Department of Public Safety also issued a Blue Alert for the suspect.
The slain Texas trooper has not been identified.
“I am saddened to hear of the tragic death of a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper killed today in Freestone County,” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said in a statement.
“This trooper died selflessly serving Texas. Please join Angela and me as we pray for the trooper’s family and for the entire Department of Public Safety.”
