A South Carolina daycare owner has been charged with battery and assault after being accused of physically abusing the children in her care, often with the use of a paddle allegedly named "Bob."

Fox Carolina reported that Margaret Sue Tennis — owner of Carousel of Learning daycare in Pickens, SC — is under investigation by Social Services after a family accused her of abusing their four-year-old son.

Angel Taylor, the mother of the boy that was in Tennis' care, said she was unaware physical discipline was used at the daycare until her son came home with his bottom red after allegedly being paddled. Taylor has five children who attended Carousel of Learning, and her 11-year-old daughter "described the paddle as green with yellow polka dots and the word 'Bob' printed on it," the report noted.

"I had no idea they did this," the mother told Fox Carolina. "Why wouldn't someone tell parents that this happens? I want other parents to be aware."

Tennis' husband and staff at the daycare denied the allegations. She was released on a personal recognizance bond Tuesday of just under $1,100.
