Former combat veteran Martha McSally took down Kelli Ward and Joe Arpaio in Tuesday's Republican primary in Arizona, AZ Central reported.

While Arpaio was a close ally with Donald Trump, the president stayed out of the race. Ward ran as if she was the female version of Trump, attacking the media, blasting Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) just prior to his death and then having his death cause her problems.

McSally will face Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) in the general election in November to fill the seat being left vacant by Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ).

Flake said in an interview Tuesday that he hoped McSally would win and succeed him. While the 2018 midterms are favoring Democrats, the Arizona race will be a tough climb.
