A Tennessee woman was arrested after allegedly attacking another driver and hurling racist abuse at a police officer.
Dana Vela was driving recklessly Sunday when she wrecked into another vehicle at an intersection in Cordova, and police said she was “visibly hysterical” and smelled of alcohol when they arrived, reported WREG-TV.
The other driver told police the 33-year-old Vela got out of her car and attacked him before they arrived.
Police said Vela escaped her handcuffs and tried to escape the patrol car, and she attacked officers when they opened the rear door to restrain her again.
Vela punched one officer with the handcuffs while shouting racial slurs and profanity.
The officer suffered an eye injury and an injury to his lower back in the altercation.
Vela charged with assault, disorderly conduct, resisting official detention, driving under the influence, violation of financial law, public intoxication and reckless driving.
