Facing public backlash, Major League Baseball has asked Republican Mississippi Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith to return a $5,000 donation made to her campaign.

According to the Daily Beast, the league issued a statement on Sunday morning, stating: “The contribution was made in connection with an event that MLB lobbyists were asked to attend. MLB has requested that the contribution be returned.”

The report states thet the contribution was just made two days ago -- long after it was reported that Hyde-Smith made comments about “public hangings” and voter suppression, which she now claims were jokes.

On Saturday it was revealed that Hyde-Smith shipped her daughter off to a "segregated academy" to presumably avoid contact with black students.
