Democrat Ben McAdams beat out Rep. Mia Love (R-UT) in his bid to flip Utah's 4th Congressional district, the Associated Press reported on Tuesday evening.

Love, a Haitian-American who served a district that includes much of downtown Salt Lake City, was the first black woman Republican ever elected to Congress. She served two terms.

The New York Times noted that with McAdams' win, Democrats have now picked up 38 House seats in the midterms.
