Trump can expect ‘subpoenas every week’ when Democrats take over the House: NYT correspondent

President Donald Trump in the Oval Office.

During a CNN discussion on Donald Trump’s legal woes and the multiple investigations looking into every aspect of his life and his presidential campaign, a White House correspondent for the New York Times said the administration can expect a “subpoenas every week” when the Democrats assume control of the House.

Speaking with host John King, the Times’ Julie Davis said that Democrats –who will be assuming chairmanships on House committees — will be walking in the door with plans to go after the Trump administration.

Following King listing off the various investigations now ongoing, Davis said the White House’s problems are even bigger than that.

“This is not even counting all the investigations they’ll be confronting from the House Democrats when they take over in January,” Davis warned. “I mean, this is a whole other can of worms that they know they’ll have to deal with.”

“The difference there is they do have something of a plan,” she continued. “I think the White House Counsel’s Office is very focused on trying to figure out how they’ll deal with that incoming — probably subpoenas every week — and a number of agencies and things that they could be investigating there.”

“And what has come out of these existing legal cases and investigations up till now will start to be taken up by Congress,” she explained. “When they engage in a fight over potentially getting the president’s tax returns, they’ll get into these questions of his private business dealings and what they may also tell us about ongoing things like a sort of a quickening drum beat that will happen very quickly when Democrats take over in January.”
