Former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly joined every single former Secretary of Homeland Security in writing a letter to President Donald Trump to urge re-opening of the department.

“We call on our elected leaders to restore the funding necessary to ensure our homeland remains safe and that the department’s critical national security functions continue without compromise.

The letter was also signed by Janet Napolitano and Jeh Johnson, who led Homeland Security during the Barack Obama administration.

And Tom Ridge and Michael Chertoff, who served as Secretary of Homeland Security during the George W. Bush administration.

The signers included every retired Secretary since the Department was formed in 2002.
