President Donald Trump is inadvertently helping Democrats push for higher taxes on the rich according to report fro Helaine Olen, opinion writer for The Washington Post.

"Polls show that millions of Americans support hitting the wealthy in the wallet," she wrote.

As part of the “Green New Deal,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has floated the idea of a 70 percent tax hike on the rich. In addition, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) has said she wanted to roll back the GOP tax cut.

Olen explains that Trump's "greed" has shown Americans that a tax increase on the riches could help Americans. In the days where some Americans are most vulnerable, Trump has shown little empathy to help or improve the lives of all Americans.

This was seen first hand during the longest government shutdown in history. Trump said people living paycheck to paycheck would just figure it out and said that grocery stores would help them with their needs, even if they couldn't pay the bill.

Olen said, "How could this have happened? Here’s a thought: Blame Donald Trump. Like no one else, Trump proves that the United States’ 40-year infatuation with tax cuts and trickle-down economics was a sham."

"Trump’s greed would stink in the best of times," she wrote. "We do not live in that kind of period. Income and wealth inequality are at levels not seen since the last gilded age. Increasing numbers of college graduates are burdened with college debt. Life expectancy is falling."

She added, "It’s not a surprise; it’s hard not to suspect future generations will look back at this period and wonder what took us so long to demand the Trumps of the world pay their fair share of the tax bill."
