Like something out of a crime show or the early 1900s, a worker has died after falling into a meat grinder, WNEP reported Monday.
According to the Lycoming County coroner, the 35-year-old man fell into the grinder at a processing plant near Muncy Township, Pennsylvania.
The incident happened Monday morning, and police were withholding the man's name until his family could be notified.
Presumably, the company was forced to dispose of the meat containing the man's remains, though the report doesn't explicitly say.
In wake of the government shutdown that spanned the end of 2018 and beginning of 2019, it was revealed that the FDA was forced to cut food inspections due to budget cuts. It prompted many to ask if American food is still safe to eat.
The Trump administration recently decided to allow pork producers to serve as their own inspectors rather than tasking the Food and Drug Administration with the responsibility.
