On Monday, Fox 32 News reported that four sophomores at Flossmoor High School in suburban Chicago are being told by school administrators to stay home after an Instagram post appeared to show them wearing blackface.

The motivation for the stunt is unclear. Some students say that it was a botched attempt to don Army face paint. Others say that it was intentional blackface but that the young men were unaware of its offensive connotations, with senior Jack Johnson saying, "I just feel like they don’t understand the gravity of their actions ... they need to understand that's wrong and why."

For confidentiality reasons, the school declined to say what disciplinary measures, if any, will be taken. The school has sent a letter to families denouncing the post, and some parents are weighing whether to stage a walkout on Tuesday.
