A Trump-loving Republican lawmaker from Tennessee has filed a bill with the state legislature to designate CNN and the Washington Post as “fake news” outlets.
Local news station WCYB reports that Tennessee State Rep. Micah Van Huss’s proposed bill designates “CNN and the Washington Post as fake news and condemns them for denigrating our citizens.”
The bill takes particular issue with depictions by Washington Post and CNN opinion contributors who have accused Trump supporters of acting like a “cult” that will mindlessly obey whatever the president says.
“We condemn them for denigrating our citizens and implying that they are weak-minded followers instead of people exercising their rights that our veterans paid for with their blood,” the bill states.
There is little indication that this bill is gaining traction so far, however — Local station WREG reports that the bill was filed earlier this week without any cosponsors.
