Ex-cop and Bundy occupation militia leader faces 266 years in prison after stealing $87,000 from business clients

Idaho militia leader and former police officer Brandon Curtiss was arrested on 19 felony counts of grand theft, the Idaho Statesmanreported Tuesday.

Curtiss was the founder of the militia group 3% of Idaho and the Pacific Patriots Network. He is facing 266 years in prison.

A two year investigation by Idaho State Police concluded that his two business, Curtiss Property Management and Liberty Property Management, stole $87,000 by collecting rents from tenants, but failing to deliver the money to the owners of the homes and apartments he managed.

Prior to property management, Curtiss spent two years as a reserve officer, a total of four years at the Nez Perce tribal department and five years at the Orofino Police Department.

Curtiss had traveled to Oregon to join the Bundy occupation of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge.

In 2016, three dozens members of 3% of Idaho resigned, alleging Curtiss had taken money raised for four Idaho men arrested in the 2014 Bundy Ranch standoff in Nevada.

Curtiss allegedly used the group's PayPal account for $295 sent to Rollin Smoke Diesel, a company that provides aftermarket parts that allow diesel engines to produce thick clouds of pollution.

Other purchases included a camping reservation, Taco Bell and an iTunes music download.

Curtiss is being held on $150,000 bail. His first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.
