President Joe Biden on Thursday signed a $1.9 trillion coronavirus pandemic relief bill in a brief Oval Office ceremony.

"This historic legislation is about rebuilding the backbone of this country and giving people in this nation — working people, middle class folks, the people who build the country — a fighting chance," Biden said.

A short time later, press secretary Jen Psaki was asked about the timing of the $1,400 checks.

"Since the Treasury Department -- the Department of the Treasury and the IRS are working hard to get relief payments out the door as fast as possible to the American people, people can expect to start seeing direct deposits hit their bank accounts as early as this weekend," Psaki said.

"This, of course, is just the first wave, but some people in the country will start seeing those direct deposits in their bank accounts this weekend," she explained. "And payments to eligible Americans will continue throughout the course of the next several weeks."
