Detroit sees 5% drop in homicides in 2021 while other large cities endure more violent year

DETROIT — While cities across the country in 2021 set records for homicides or recorded sharp increases, killings in Detroit dropped slightly, according to preliminary police department statistics. There were 309 criminal homicides in Detroit in 2021, a 5% decrease from 324 the previous year, according to preliminary data released to The Detroit News.
