GOP congressman hijacks abortion hearing to deliver bizarre religious rant

The Committee on Oversight and Reform held a hearing this Thursday to "examine the threat to abortion rights and access posed by extreme anti-choice state governments and a Supreme Court that is hostile to reproductive rights," according to the Committee's press release.

When it was his turn to speak, Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA) used his time to rant against what he sees are the evils of abortion.

"Over the course of my 60 years, I've failed and fallen in way that bring shame upon my heart and soul," said Higgins. "I've been callous and uncaring, I've lacked compassion, I've broken promises ... I've lived, and doth I've sinned."

Higgins went on to say that America is an "anointed nation" and that "stands in judgement of no man," but as a "child of God," Higgins declared that he will "fight to protect the innocent with every fiber of my being."

"Ultimately, God's will will imbue itself into American society deep from my heart as had been mentioned here today," he continued. "America's laws will ultimately reflect God's love for his unborn children. Until that time, some of us will never rest in our battle to protect the most vulnerable amongst us."
