Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) on Saturday complained about Joe Biden acting more like Franklin Delano Roosevelt than Bill Clinton by seeking to pull the country out of despair.
"'The era of big government is over,' POTUS Bill Clinton famously declared in his 1996 State of the Union address," Cornyn wrote. "Biden has consciously cloaked himself in the legacy of FDR, to hark back to an earlier age of liberalism when government pulled the country out of despair."
Cornyn was ridiculed for his take. Here's some of what people were saying:
@JohnCornyn What’s bad about government pulling the county out of despair? I’m thinking that EXACTLY what we need right now.— TamaraVotes.TX (@TamaraVotes.TX) 1619871872.0
I'd rather be pulled out of despair by Democrats than left to rot in despair by Republicans.

I'm not sure if your comms team is writing these idiotic tweets for you, or if they're just standing by laughing and letting you make a fool of yourself — but either way it's clear they *hate* you.

This is legitimately a glowing endorsement of Biden, and the fact that Cornyn (and his staff) can't see that shows exactly how out of touch they are with working Americans.
Working people want their government to give a shit about them and pull the country out of despair.

I imagine your social media team would like to be pulled out of despair.

You guys are desperate. It is really sad. The country under Trump was headed down the darkest path we've been on in generations, and you don't like it Biden is lifting us out.

Yeah Biden gets it thanks for sharing.

FDR is considered one of the greatest presidents in history. He pulled us out of the Great Depression and turned the US into a superpower.

Do you even understand your own tweets? “...when government pulled the country out of despair." Isn't that precisely what WE THE PEOPLE WANT AND NEED???!!!!

@lauferlaw @JohnCornyn Of course he hasn't. He was hoping it would secede.— Rob Thompson (@Rob Thompson) 1619886258.0
Exactly. That's exactly it. That's why we all voted for him, and what we hope he does. I'm so glad you've finally figured it out.

Pardon, but its more than a bit rich for any Texas politician to rail against 'big gov't' after your power system debacle and the nearly $200B in losses and $20B in Federal bailout it incurred, while your neighboring states saw zero issues.....
You're bad at governing

I would like our country to be pulled out of despair, so that's perfect.

Investing in the prospects & wellbeing of all of the American people, not only those who run or own large corporations is necessary to overcome decades of worsening income inequality & collapsing local economies. We all do better when we all do better.

Kudos to Biden to know how to govern to pull the country out of despair and away from the corruption of the administration that preceded him.

How long is an era? Because he said that almost 25 years ago.
Which means maybe it is time for the past 25 years of the GOP tax cuts for the rich era to be over.
I'm looking forward to the era of smart, well run government starting now.

Government can help people. When it's not run by Republicans.
