Dems open impeachment by using Mitch McConnell's own words against Trump

Democrats began the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump on Tuesday with a video documenting the January 6th insurrection by Trump supporters at the U.S. Capitol.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) introduced the video after a procedural vote on the resolution governing the trial.

The video featured the words of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on the day of the attack.

"We're debating a step that has never been taken in American history," McConnell explained. "President Trump claims the election was stolen. The assertions range from specific local allegations, to constitutional arguments to sweeping conspiracy theories."

"But my colleagues, nothing before us proves illegality anywhere near near the massive scale -- massive scale -- that would've tipped the entire election," McConnell explained.
