On Tuesday, WABC reported that New York City police are investigating an incident in which a man allegedly threatened to burn down a bagel shop in Queens for displaying Israeli flags.

"Police say the suspect was recording on his phone when he told one of the store's employees to remove Israeli flags hanging at the shop," said the report. "'Remove those Israeli flags and shut the business down or I'll burn the building down,' he allegedly said to the workers. No injuries were reported."

The past year has seen a surge of anti-Semitic attacks in the United States. Some of these attacks have come under the guise of support for the liberation of Palestine, as with a group who targeted Jewish diners in Los Angeles, and others have been driven by longtime tropes about Jews controlling the media and blaming them for the COVID-19 pandemic, as with a recent incident of messages left in rock-filled bags in Central Texas.
