Muslim Brotherhood member in Syria sentenced to 12 years in prison

Damascus- Syria's State Security Court on Tuesday sentenced Ahmed Mustafa al-Sayyed to 12 years in prison for membership of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, a Syrian human rights organization said. The National Organization For Human Rights in Syria said that al- Sayyed, 42, from Aleppo, north of Syria, was sentenced to death on Sunday but that the verdict had been commuted to 12 years imprisonment.
Under Syrian law, membership of the Brotherhood is a capital offence.
