Amid attempts by Sen. George Allen (R-VA) to turn small sections of a book by rival Jim Webb into a political issue, Webb, in a speech today, stood by his work and criticized Allen for failing to address controversies that have plagued his own campaign in recent months.

The controversy began last week after the Allen campaign issued a press release describing Webb's book as pornographic and inappropriate. Webb has stood by his work--which has been lauded by conservatives, including John McCain--contending it is a serious work of fiction based upon incidents he witnessed while serving in the Vietnam War. Allen did not participate in Vietnam.

Footage of Webb's speech appears below.
