D.C. whispers: Chertoff may replace Gonzales

Might there be some trading up at the Justice Department? According to U.S. News and World Report, "buzz among top Bushies is that beleaguered Attorney General Alberto Gonzales finally plans to depart and will be replaced by Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff."

Officials claim the Chertoff is a likely candidate because he has little connection to the Justice prosecutor scandal, has friends on Capitol Hill, and is experienced, having served as a federal judge and assistant attorney general.
