Jay Leno had some fun with footage from Dick Cheney's recent interview on CNN in a segment on The Tonight Show this week.
For a comedy bit, Leno aired humorous questions before Cheney's responses to CNN host Larry King. The Tonight Show gag produced some exchanges that some of Cheney's fiercest critics would perhaps not find all that unbelievable.
"Mr. Vice President, is it true you know the Devil, personally," Leno "asks" Cheney.
"I've seen, had dinner with him," was Cheney's reply. In the exchange with King, Cheney's response is actually to a question about his former aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby.
Some of Cheney's "responses" cause Leno to do a spit-take, such as when the Tonight Show Host asks what book inspired his political philosophy.
"1984," Cheney says, a reference Leno implies is to George Orwell's dystopian classic about life under Big Brother's totalitarian rule. The vice president was actually telling King about the presidential election that year.
Leno also makes Cheney replay "absolutely" when asked if he admit to frequented the so-called DC Madam. Earlier this year, rumors swirled that Cheney might actually be among Debra Jean Palfrey's high-profile clients in Washington.
"You go in at 8 o'clock in the morning. I was out by noon," Cheney said, to which Leno replied, "You must really like sex."
"I've done a lot of it," Cheney said, "and will continue to do a lot of it as long as I'm vice president."
