Raw Story hires Kay Steiger as first-ever managing editor
WASHINGTON, DC– Raw Story is pleased to announced that Kay Steiger will be joining the organization as the first-ever managing editor on February 17. Steiger joins Raw Story after serving as the online managing editor at The Washingtonian, the editor of Campus Progress — the education policy arm of Think Progress — and an editorial assistant at The American Prospect. Her work has also been published at The Atlantic, RH Reality Check, In These Times, The Guardian and Religion Dispatches.
“I’m delighted to have Kay join our team,” said executive editor Megan Carpentier. “Kay’s experience shepherding original reporting and developing young writers’ unique voices will help Raw Story live up to its commitment to readers to provide them with high-quality news stories on topics and issues that often gets short shrift in the mainstream media.
Steiger’s addition to the Raw Story editorial team is just part of a major editorial expansion that culminated in a 26 percent growth in its audience since the site relaunched in October 2011. The expansion in 2011 was also capped off by a surge in unique visitors that puts Raw Story ahead of other competing independent, progressive reported news sites.
Raw Story is a progressive news site that focuses on stories often ignored in the mainstream media while still giving coverage to the big stories of the day. Founded in Cambridge, MA in 2004, Raw Story reaches more than 1.6 million unique readers per month and serves more than 10 million pageviews.
