Russian broadcaster MatchTV cut off Saturday's Bundesliga match between Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig before half-time due to the visibility of pro-Ukraine messages in the stadium.

"Unfortunately we have to stop the broadcast due to reasons beyond our control," said commentator Igor Kytmanov.

"In general football and politics should be kept apart. But this rule is not always observed in the Bundesliga."

The broadcast interruption was first reported by NTV.

In contrast to the English Premier League and French Ligue 1 the Bundesliga was still shown in Russia following the invasion of Ukraine.

The German league DFL decided early March to continue its contract with MatchTV partly to enable anti-war messages to be shown in Russia.

Revenue from the deal was donated to humanitarian help in Ukraine.
