Speaking to CNN, Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) slammed colleagues Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Josh Hawley (R-MO), saying that "at a minimum" they "should be censured" for their actions contributing to the violent invasion of the U.S. Capitol.
The pro-Trump rioters and paramilitary groups that stormed the Capitol were motivated by the former president's nonstop conspiracy theories that the election had been stolen or rigged. Cruz and Hawley were among the most prominent lawmakers in Congress backing up the president's behavior, objecting to the Electoral College certification during the riot. Hawley even raised a fist in solidarity as he passed the people who would go on to attack the Capitol.
Cruz and Hawley are facing an ethics complaint over their role in the affair. Both deny any wrongdoing.
