So, y'all know about that really cool thing out there in the blogosphere called bloggingheads tv, right? In which really cool people sit around ye ol’ computer monitor and jaw about something they know a lot about? It makes for really interesting, fly-on-the-wall type watching, and as I say: It’s really cool.
Dear Fellow Progressives:
It’s an election year.
Here's a radical notion: If you're a man and you call yourself a Progressive, you can't sling sexist insults at women.
Earlier today, two Israeli soldiers were “lightly to moderately wounded” by gunfire out of Gaza. According to HaAretz:
Much has been made of President Obama’s oft-quoted comment that his views on marriage equality were “evolving.” Until this week, when apparently, they’d “evolved.”
On Monday, all was set for the Israeli Knesset to vote no-confidence in the ruling coalition, dismiss itself, and head for early elections in September. In the Israeli legislative system, all bills go through three “readings,” and on late Monday night the no-confidence bill had already passed its first reading – but then, in the wee hours of Tuesday, Prime Minister Netanyahu, the man who had spearheaded the entire effort, scuttled the plan by striking a deal with Shaul Mofaz (the recently elected head of the main opposition party, Kadima), to form a unity coalition which will give the government fully 94 of the Knesset’s 120 seats.
Ok so here’s some really disturbing information of which I was unaware: The Center for American Progress is reporting that if the Supreme Court strikes down or guts health care reform — women will suffer disproportionately.
I don’t believe in it.
The following words emerged from the mouth of Speaker of the House John Boehner earlier today:
Was a time, I decorated walls with the faces of people I didn’t know: Donny Osmond, James Taylor, probably U2 at some point, although I was an adult by then, even if a young one, and adults don’t generally mount posters of Famous People around their homes.
Every spring brings a whipsaw of emotion to the American-Israeli peace-advocate Jew living in self-imposed exile (me, if you were wondering).
I’ve been thinking a lot and writing a little about the idea that bigotry is, in essence, cruelty and lies, and that the current conservative movement is marked by all three.
Being a mom is hard.
