A melee over a Confederate flag broke out Saturday on a busy street in Myrtle Beach and ended in a haunted house with costumed characters trying to break it up.

The fight on Ocean Boulevard in South Carolina's tourist destination started when several men grabbed a Confederate flag off a truck that was stuck in traffic on Saturday night, local business owner William Hovis told WMBF.

The truck driver got out of his truck and confronted the men and they began brawling, Hovis told the station. Surveillance camera footage shows a man being knocked flat on his back.

"From the time the fight started to the time it got across the street, it was ten seconds," Hovis said.

After the driver punched the man, his friends chased him across the street into a haunted house, where the actors there tried to break things up. But instead, of calming down, the men attacked the haunted house employees, WMBF reports.

Police told the station no arrests were made. But locals said there have been more impassioned displays of the Confederate flag and opposition to it recently.

Last month, the Confederate flag was removed from the South Carolina statehouse after a white supremacist killed nine African-American churchgoers in Charleston, including a state senator.
