‘I haven’t eased anything’: Trump casually lies about backtracking on Russian sanctions
President Donald Trump on Thursday insisted that his administration had not “eased” sanctions against Russia even though a Treasure Department order appears to indicate otherwise.
In a statement on Thursday, the U.S. Treasury Department said that it was modifying sanctions placed on Russia for interfering in the U.S. election on behalf of Trump.
The new order will reportedly allow U.S. companies to make limited transactions with Russian intelligence agency FSB for the purpose of importing technology into Russia.
The president was asked about the Treasury order on Thursday during a meeting with Harley Davidson executives.
“I haven’t eased anything,” Trump told reporters with a shrug.
